Do you find Rihanna's digital sales unimpressive?

Recommended Posts

Rihanna is the second best selling female artist (singles). This is due to the fact that she released almost double the amount of singles and albums as her peers (no shade of course)

When looking at her sales, it seems to be very unimpressive, especially when she gets radio support from pop, urban, rythmic, and HAC sometimes.

Single Sales

WFL- 5.6 million

Disturbia- 4.95 million

Umbrella-4.7 million

Stay- 4.7 million

S&M- 4 million

Diamonds- 3.8 million

OGITW- 3.6 million

Take a Bow- 3 million

Rude Boy- 3 million

What's my name- 3 million

I wouldn't say unimpressive, while it is true that she released more singles i don't think it made that huge of a difference. The certified sales tend to be inaccurate and a gross underestimation of the actual sales in reality, especially with older songs and female artists...

considering that out of all the artist you just listed, she's the ONLY one who can score a multi platinum smash hit in 2021, id say no. plus, her biggest smashes are on par with taylor.. literally only love story is bigger?? it's literally in your post dead2  a couple hundred thousand sales is hardly that big of a difference

katy and gaga had bigger smashes in their peak, but where they are now. rihanna won in the long run

she released more singles then katy and gaga combined tho. Rihanna hasn't released a single in 4 years so we can't predict the future. Gaga is doing quite well 13 years into her career.

Her #1s don't sell like #1 songs. Paparazzi and Blow by Kesha outsold or sold on par with most of her #1's. I listed her peers, unless you want to add adele which decimates everyone.

Honey, she sold more than 250M records, how’s that not impressive? Most of it comes from singles.
Plus these figures you’ve mentioned are wrong but anyways.

these figures are straight from billboards nielson report. These are pure sales not sps. I stated it wasn't shade. She released more than double the amount of singles, hence why they're higher. Her sales for individual songs are disappointing considering she had more radio support.

not since Teenage Dream rih12

Dark Horse and Roar sold 6.4 and 6.6 million copies which is enormous

Her single sales are enormous.

She’s never been a huge album seller, but nine figure record sales is not something to be ashamed of.

yes her total figure is huge, but it's due to the fact that she released 65 singles compared to 50 (Taylor), 21 (Gaga), and 24 (Katy).  But the figures for each single is disappointing sans umbrella and disturbia.

They really search to drag Rihanna every way they can rip4

Like who tf cares about digital singles sales. WFL is literally the biggest female song of the 10s.

It's not the biggest song of the 10's. It didn't even make the year end ifpi chart. Most of it's chart points were coming from radio. It's year end position for digital sales was 17 while being the second most played song of the year. How do digital sales not matter? It shows people actually want to own the song, not radio shoving down people's throats. There are no certification for radio. It's sales and streaming (now). Radio is promotion for the song. It's made to promote a song so that it can sell

There are songs that sold way more with half the radio support, that includes call me maybe, poker face, just dance, rolling in the deep, someone like you, roar and so on. It's success is very radio driven.

A- I am not a hater

B- that is based on chart reverse points and radio. It's not sales and streaming

Yes, you are and yet Rihanna’s legacy goes far beyond those artists you mentioned with only Taylor in the US coming close. clap3

Gaga and Taylor both have a great legacy. Great vocals, talented songwriters, and they play instruments. Gaga is also a better dancer. But we're not talking about legacy here. It's a simple question....
