Britney Spears filed court documents Tuesday to end the conservatorship that has controlled her life for the past 13 years, a source confirms to Page Six.

The pop star’s court-appointed attorney, Samuel D. Ingham III, submitted the paperwork in Los Angeles on her behalf, six days after Britney’s explosive testimony declaring her conservatorship  ‘abusive.’

During the virtual hearing, the Grammy winner called her estranged father, Jamie Spears, an “abusive” conservator and laid out a number of accusations against him, including that he had forced her to go on tour in 2018 and sent her to a mental healthy facility against her will the following year. Britney had petitioned to have Jamie removed from her conservatorship entirely prior to requesting its termination Tuesday, saying in court documents that she was “afraid” of him and would not continue performing with him in charge.

This is the first step Britney has taken to become a free woman — and we’re wishing her the best.

At the time, take this news with a grain of salt as the documents are not yet publicly available.
Some reported that the paperwork has been prepared, but not yet filed; however, the Britney Law Army tweeted that it has:

TMZ also reported on it, before swiftly deleting the article again and airing a report about her mental health.
