Should Mariah be worried?

Mariah's Christmas nemesis Brenda Lee slips ahead of her, claiming No. 1 on US Spotify. This came after their shockingly close performance last week, with only a 4 points gap between them -- the closest they've ever been. 



This time last year, AIWFCIY had a comfortable lead of 39 points. Should Mariah be worried about getting blocked from #1 this year?

If “Rockin” were to go #1 this year, it would become the oldest song to top the chart, breaking AIWFCIY's current 24-year record.
At 77, she would also become the oldest person to reach #1 on the chart.

Not really. 
 

Because even if it doesn’t quite get there this year, there’s always next year. And it won’t mean the difference between Mariah hitting #1 with that song ever, it’ll simply mean she won’t hit #1 with that song for the third year in a row. 
 

Besides, the diamond certification is a good consolation prize, should it not get to #1. Same thing with the album, if Merry Christmas doesn’t pick up enough for a diamond certification this year, it will happen next year.

I think after the past years of Mariah MILKING the song so much, people have grown a bit tired of it. She herself has reached her goal of getting it to chart #1, so she has seemingly toned it down this year.

Brenda Lee’s song has already gotten more popular by the year. She deserves it honestly.
