ROUND 4: The Power Trinity

Songs that make me powerful true1 About women realizing their own worth, standing up to male domination, voicing their sexual desires and being financially independent. All from the same time period.

DELTA

Spoiler

Confidence Man - Woman

The opening track from
Australian electro-pop band Confidence Man's 2nd album "Tilt",
released in April 2022.

Rina Sawayama - Comme Des Garçons (Like The Boys)

The 2nd single taken from
Japanese-British singer-songwriter Rina Sawayama's debut album "Sawayama",
released in 2020.

Lady Gaga - Free Woman

A song in which Rina Sawayama herself would go on to feature in a remix of,
this is taken from Gaga's 6th studio album "Chromatica",
released in 2020.

I believe these 3 songs all fit together for these reasons:

1. EMPOWERING

Released to coincide with International Women's Day 2022,
"Woman" includes a feminist manifesto at the beginning of the song.
"I’m a woman of many words, but words do not define me..."

"Comme Des Garçons (Like The Boys)" is empowering as it fights back against the expectations from society
that people can only express their confidence in masculine ways.

"Free Woman" has empowering lyrics relating to finding happiness and freedom through life's obstacles.
"This is my dancefloor I fought for"

2. CONFIDENT

"Woman" gives women confidence through the lyrics,
as well as giving everyone confidence with its euphoric instrumentation,
that makes you want to dance without a care in the world.

"Comme Des Garçons (Like The Boys)" screams "CONFIDENT" especially with it's lyrics.
"I'm so confident. I'm so confident"
The lyrics explore the social acceptance of boys/men acting confident in comparison to women, which is deemed negative;
whilst the music itself is a beat that makes you confident throughout.

"Free Woman" is a song that was written with the trans community in mind, representing the feeling of confidence they have to properly express who they are.
It also represents the confidence one has to make their dreams a reality.

3. IMPACTFUL

"Woman" is a 90's rave inspired song that is fiery and fierce both musically and lyrically.

From 90's rave to early 2000's dance,
"Comme Des Garçons (Like The Boys)" continues the vibe of a pulsating bass and celebratory lyrics.
"Yeah, I'm just in it, born to win it. Keep going and going"

Ending the trio is "Free Woman", a 90's eurodance inspired song which celebrates Gaga's LGBT fans,
as the LGBT community helped her after a sexual assault left her suffering from PTSD.
"I'm not nothing without a steady hand. I'm not nothing unless I know I can"

ROUND 3: The Power Trinity

🌸 Women's Empowerment 🌸
Women's empowerment can be defined to promoting women's sense of self-worth, their ability to determine their own choices, and their right to influence social change for themselves and others.

When I hear the word "power", as a woman I automatically think of songs that ooze girl power, that I can listen to to make me feel empowered and confident. Girls and women have gone through and still go through a lot of things men don’t and having strong women in music using their voices is so important. I picked three songs that fit together sonically and thematically.

The second song fits into my theme because women are often called crazy (and other things) if we’re too loud, too confident or just not living up to how men (AND other women) expect us to act or live our lives. But who cares if we don't live up to other people's standards and expectations? I'm gonna show you crazy.

I think power is inherently corrupting, and for that reason I chose three darker songs.  My take on "Power" is more industrial and grunge rather than something cheery and upbeat. With that though, these songs are favorites of mine, especially Rhode, and give me a big boost of confidence when I listen to them.

'Army of Me' is about holding power over someone else, 'Love Surrounds You' is about submitting to the power of a lover, and 'Rhode' is about finding self empowerment.

There is a lot of power in moving forward. This selection of three songs I believe is the perfect encapsulation of that idea. All three of these songs talk about moving forward even when the times are hard, growing from the strife that you've experienced, and changing into somebody that you can be proud of. All of them discuss taking this and how powerful that can be for your life. Sometimes it's about taking the person you used to be and learning to grow from your mistakes (All These Things I've Done), sometimes it's about learning that pain will be a part of life but it's how you roll with it that gives you strength (Last Hope), and sometimes it's all about shaking loose all that's holding you back and going on to live another day (Shake It Out). These three songs have uplifted me on several occasions through the years and there's no doubt in my mind that they will continue to be present in my life.

round four

Power (empowering, confident, impactful)

for this round, i've constructed a trinity based on women who have sang about feminism and equality between the sexes in one form or another, specifically in a rock (or rock-leaning in Halsey's case)

In This Moment - Dirty Pretty

here, Maria Brink sings her frustrations with how men only view her as merely sexual when she is much more than that.

Spoiler

Halsey - Nightmare

this opens the trinity by way of lyrical content. she is simply fed up with men in power taking advantage of women.

Spoiler

Halestorm - Daughters of Darkness

and lastly, Lzzy Hale sings about how women will always have each other's back, no matter what.

Don't Hurt Yourself: 'Til I realize I'm just too much for you

Happier Than Ever: And don't waste the time I don't have

i am not a woman, i'm a god: So I stay right here, cause I'm better all alone

▽ △ ▽

This time I created a little short story of this person realizing that their partner in life (could be a friend, a family member or a romantic partner) is just not giving them what they'd need to fulfill their every dream. With that realization sudden euphoria kicks in.

I'm unstoppable.

I can set myself up for way higher things.

I can bounce onto the next person.

I am happier than ever.

This phase however does not last forever. With hormones settling down, a bit of normal every day to day business starts intertwining. With that return the demons of the past. Did I just make a horrible mistake? Am I a fraud?

But in the end, there's this: Realization. Acceptance.

I am all of that.

I am powerful.

I can also be a problem.

And you know what? I'm okay with that.

There is nothing more powerful than me knowing exactly who I am.

ANNOUNCEMENT

Hello everyone!
There are two important things I'd like to talk about ahead of Saturday's live show.

FIRST,
As many of you know, things got a bit heated during the last result show. Approaching the next live show, I'd like to ask everyone to relax on the shade both towards the judges and your fellow players, and to also not take things too seriously.

There were comments made towards the judges (especially Urbi) that were frankly out of line, and regardless of how you intended for them to come across, should not have been posted. You may disagree with the judges' scoring -- which is fine, I'm sure many of you will -- but please voice your disagreements in ways that are more respectful.

This also applies with how you should engage with your fellow players. Remember that at the end of the day this is just a game and we're all here to have fun. Moving forward, I trust we can have a more cordial environment for everyone.

SECOND,
Unfortunately there is a chance that I won't have internet on Saturday, which means I might not be able to host the live show. If this were to happen, Dennis Reynolds will be hosting the live show and he will also be posting the Round 5 thread. This is just temporary however, and he is not replacing me as the Host.

I wish I could give you a more concrete word on this, but due to the circumstances & situations in my real life a lot of things are up in the air right now. Apologies for the inconvenience!

Thank you!
