How successful was Taylor in Germany before Midnights?

1989 was the album of my youth. Red/1989 were pretty huge/medium here too. 

I went to Gelsenkirchen N2 for the Eras Tour and they renamed the city(Swiftkirchen). So many news channels reported on it. Yet the comments are always the same: who is this, i never heard a song of this lady and she is supposed to be a megastar? 

 

Some claim that she was non existent here before Midnights. Where is this coming from? Lover and Reputation charted at 2. 

Is it an age thing? I don't know.

There is a big german news channel that has reported on why she is so successful and some of the comments said that she has been irrelevant before, that they don't know a single song of hers etc

Her first era that received some airplay in Germany was Red. From 1989, I remember hearing Shake It Off and Blank Space. Everything else that came after that tanked.

Even when she was at her first "peak" she wasn’t nearly as big as she was in the US. Personally, I think TikTok and the rise of KPop helped her gain popularity. Her fanbase has a lot of cross-overs with the people that got into KPop and she has used the very same marketing strategy KPop artists use.

I can definitely confirm though that she definitely wasn’t as big before. It happened some time during Covid. It’s quite strange.
