The story is set in Mexico City and addresses issues such as organized crime and forced disappearances, two of the country's most serious problems. However, it is precisely the way in which its director, Jacques Audiard, portrayed them that has caused rejection and attacks from the audience.

Now, in an interview with Uruguayan media outlet "Búsqueda.com," Audiard defended the film, saying that thanks to it he managed to make disappearances in Mexico visible, both in national and international media.

"There has never been so much talk in the Mexican press about the missing, even if it's just to give me a hard time. But at least there is talk," said the French director. He even said that the film could generate a new perspective on the issue, one with which the rest of the world can empathize and understand what is happening: "All these Mexican dramas are documented, there are many articles, but I told myself that I had to change my tool. I had to use music (because) it is no longer about reflecting, but about feeling. It is difficult for me to be criticized for dealing with something that is outrageous," he added.

In the talk, the French creator also delved into the reasons why the production, although set in Mexico, was filmed in France and with only a few Mexicans among the participants: "I went to Mexico three or four times. I already knew the country before. At one point, I realized that the reality of the Mexican street was too real. I was scared and couldn't fit the images I had in my head together. That's when I decided to shoot in the studio."

Audiard revealed that the initial plan was to film at the Churubusco Studios, but the support he received from his country forced him to change his mind: "In the end, the economy prevailed. We received a lot more help in France for cinema... it became much more advantageous to film in France. It was like with the actresses. Why didn't I choose Mexican actresses? I couldn't find an actress who was, vulgarly speaking, "profitable."
