So a lot of people talk about how Bjork is basically the background queen of pop (as opposed to the front-and-center one Madonna) but I really don't know anything about her impact on popular music at all. What exactly has she done for popular music to receive the background acclaim she's always given???

This isn't a shade, this is a genuine "I want to learn more".

@Hyun. I can't view the people who have the Bjork award for some reason, but I THINK I remember you're a Bjork fan??? If not, do you know any Bjork fans on here who could tell me about her impact?

I have an irrational hatred for Zara Larsson. the girl gets right under my skin. Normally I don't pay any attention to artists that I dislike but I actively want her gone

Are there Youtube links for those songs? I don't have Spotify so I can't check the links posted in the singles threads.

Her impact is pretty simple. Innovation. And we're not talking about reinvention a'la Madonna - different genre and different themes and that's it. Bjork creates music from the scratch. Every album is completely different. Each album past Debut has its own theme, arrangements, genre and is pushing boundaries of music.

Post - eclectism, a lot of genres included on this record, basically you can find all of her influences here. It's also a reflection of her life in London cause this record came out when she moved there - fast paced environment, different cultures and society. Literally: mix of everything.

Homogenic - combination of electronic beats with string instruments. Very experimental album, very risky but IMO one of the best electronic albums I've ever heard in my life.

Vespertine - creation of microbeats; she recorded sounds like cracking ice, car alarm, shuffling cards and turned them into samples. Very glitchy, very ambient but it's still a pop record.

Medulla - entire album is basically recorded a capella.

List goes on and on. That's what she made for popular music. When people started to praise other artists like Gaga for something that was "never done" it was actually Bjork who has done it like 20 years before her. Björk - The Real Queen of innovation and reinvention.

Listened to "Horn in the Middle" by Nujabes and got curious so I went ahead and listened to the sampled source and it's really good.

I saved a few recently released albums on Spotify since I noticed I haven't listened to new music in a while.
