@ajp Carly quit MAINSTREAM music industry in July 2015. Run away with me is her last song to be sent to US mainstream radio by her label Interscope. Everything she has released since July 2015 (all songs and albums) is not sent to radios nor promoted.

It is factually incorrect and is also a common misconception that she is ''indie''. Carly is NOT indie. She is signed to a big label Interscope. Her albums are loaded with mainstream producers who also worked with Taylor Swift. The only difference between Carly and Taylor is that Carly doesn't sell a lot like Taylor because Taylor's songs are sent to US mainstream radios and put on the top spots and covers of Spotify and Apple Music's Top Hits Playlist.

That is very unfortunate because Carly's music is MUCH BETTER than Taylor. But the GP do not know this because Carly refuses to promote her songs/albums.

Carly is definitely having someone (possibly her boyfriend) fund her music career. It is EXPENSIVE to record a lot of songs. Her latest album sold 10,314 copies first week.

That’s a lot to unpack:

1) True, RAWM was the last mainstream single release. Due to the high cost of promotion and radio play, it was decided by Carly and her team to stop releasing songs to US Radio after this song. There was an opportunity to release CTTF to US Radio but Carly said, No.

2) Carly’s original label is 604 Records. They are an indie label and hold all her masters and release her music in Canada, only. For the US, she’s on School Boy which uses Interscope for distribution. Outside of North America, she is distributed by Universal Music.

3) She may not be as big as Taylor, but she’s holding her own and being allowed to continue in the artistic direction she wants and not be influenced by any of her labels. Yes, the labels she’s signed to pay for her recording sessions which they make back in digital/physical/streaming sales. Once they get back their input costs, then Carly starts making money. She (like Taylor) makes money on Touring. I think she does alright. She’s just released album 5 and there is no sign of her going away. By now, most pop girls don’t go past an album or two before they are has-beens. In the pre-streaming world, Carly wouldn’t have made it past Emotion. But, her back catalog in music continues to bring money in. She’s very fortunate to have a strong bench of songs people still want to hear and buy.

4) Yes, Carly records a lot of songs. Most are with her band or her writing partner, Tavish. Those songs are low cost as she often does these sessions on the road. The huge cost comes when they polish the demos into actual finished songs. You need producers, mixers, musicians etc. to get it up to album standards. If you include scrapped albums like Disco Sweat and Eternal Summer, then you can add to the costs. I think she worked with Jack cause he was just starting out, but now he’s too expensive for her. So, only Taylor can afford him. She will just move on from him and her sound will evolve.

5) Remember, the more promotion you want, the more the labels dictate what you should do an an artist. You have much less creative control. Carly never wants another CMM level single. The promotion of that song was a bit much for her. She’s grateful for the song but her career is still being defined by it.

Yes. It costs around 75,000$ to send a song to mainstream radio. The promotion cost is even much bigger.

Her decision was correct in retrospect. It would have flopped due to no GP support. Look at what happened to The Loneliest Time (song) and Made You Look. Both songs went quite viral the week before the album release but TLT failed to gain a lot of streams because it was Carly's tiny fanbase that did all the streaming, no one knows the song outside the small bubble that is Carly's tiny fanbase. Whereas Made You Look became a global hit because the GP supported Megan.

Good point. Emotion sold 16k first week in 2015 (streaming era). During the digital era (2009-2013), many artists were dropped due to first week sales of 30k-40k. Kiss sold 46k in 2012 but her label did make money with Call Me Maybe's digital download sales and Kiss sold quite well in Japan so Carly was not dropped.

CTTF being a song from a movie and not on any album except the Japanese ESB+ really didn’t warrant any promotion, but I will say that this song has probably made her lots of money despite the lack of promotion.

TLT song was a cute viral hit on TikTok but Made You Look was promoted to radio by Sony which really helped with the promotion and charting. Plus, it’s MT’s signature sound from 10 years ago. She will never grow beyond that “do-whop” sound which is unfortunate. That is why Carly doesn’t want to repeat CMM. Also, MT isn’t touring.  Her only income is coming from album/single sales and I bet she owes Sony lots of money from previous promoted flop singles/albums. Oh, and she is a host of some children food baking competition on TV fall2

And Ellie has also been getting Carly's treatment since Brightest Blue era. Ellie flopped so Interscope immediately halted all the promotion. Just a common rule: once an artist is no longer commercially viable, the label will stop promoting him/her, unless that artist wants to be big and pay for promo cost him/herself (I don't know anyone who is that hungry for fame, do you know?)

Sadly, that’s how the music industry works. Labels forget that an artist can drive revenue for years down the road, but all they can do is think of the quick money now and signing the next star for their roster to milk. rav3

@ajp Carly has used the hiding likes feature on her Instagram.  No one will be able to see how many likes her posts get from now on. Good for her because she has decided that her likes number doesn't represent her self-worth.

She has been a bit more active on Instagram than Twitter. I know her Twitter is just used for promotional purposes but I think she prefers Instagram for personal postings.

She has announced 4 dates for the summer - not part of the “So Nice” Tour. Could this be a new tour called “Anything To Be With You” Tour? um1

Also, giving away a possible track title on Side B? um1
