The REAL tea about Taylor

Recommended Posts

1989 is inspired by the 80s in some way, but it has also modern melody structures that you can find in many pop songs, you can't deny that.

I only listened to singles from previous Taylor's albums. She said this is her first pop record, although she was pop singer before. It is slightly different to me, but it is still Taylor in many songs.

She went in the direction where HAIM and Tegan and Sara are (80s revival/modern electropop), but still the most songs are very commercial and those kind of catchy melodies you could find  in Katy's, Avril's, Charlie's music too...just like you could find other artists who also did what these girls are doing.

We are talking about commercial music where everything is mostly pretty much the same. There is more crap and less quality. More generic, less adventurous and daring. Cliche or bad lyrics...

Honey, you haven't listened to tay's previous records, so, I hate to say this but, you're really not in a position to talk. The problem isn't that her record is generic, it's just NOT Taylor. Even the lyrics are too childish to be Taylor and that's a major fault. Also, she's become overly whiny!

The problem is that it's not 80s sounding, it's merely synthpop. It's not even pop, apart from the production. The big deal is that it's a REGRESSION to a crappier musical state, as every song is a snoozefest (save for SIO).

Also, what about Rihanna, Ellie Goulding, Adele, Katy Perry & Ariana Grande..... They're all pop but they DO have a different sound. They might be slight similarities but there is a distinct sound for each of the above

Taylor wrote childish lyrics before. um2  Yes, it is synthpop  and it has the vibe of the 80s synthpop.

Ariana is too basic. I honestly can't say what is difference between her and Selena and some other Disney princesses.

Sure, there is some distinction in their music, but still it isn't something unheard. Adele's music is somewhere between pop and adult contemporary, people made similar music before that.

Many Rihanna's songs (S&M) could have been sang by Britney since she started to mix pop with urban sound.

I just don't think Taylor deserves to be crucified because of a new album and slightly different sound. There are other singers who are on the same level as she or are not good as she is, but they aren't crucified.

Who knows, maybe Taylor will change her sound even more in the future. Many singers didn't find themselves in the beginning. Robyn started career as a pop/dance singer in the 90s and she had no control over her work. When she took control, she started to make qualitative and creative electropop music and became an important figure in pop music in 21th century.

The point isn't whether the acts I mentioned are original or "basic", it's whether they have a distinctive signature sound.

Ariana has her "smooth as butter" yet simultaneously strong vocals over slick & chilled out R&B beats, Adele is a soulful vocal diva with her strong voice and impactful lyrics, Rihanna is a genre chameleon but I don't know how but manages to be herself, perhaps due to exploring different aspects of her personality, though her signature sound is a dance-pop, reggae fusion, R&B, hip hop hybrid!

Taylor isn't being crucified for changing her sound, it's due to a lack of originality and the fact that 5 albums into her career, no-one really knows what the hell her own unique sound. She doesn't have one. She doesn't deseve any of her success, now more than ever.

Taylor is pop's Plain Jane!

Sorry... :( All of the acts I named are unfortunately accurate case studies..... They all have more talent than Taylor though!  antm1

Honestly, I was more team taylor when she was a hillbilly, but her venture into pop seems dull. she was doing so well as a country singer. The industry lacks young country singers, she was in her own league.  oprah11

She could have done it like Shania and release her album in 4 different versions for different genres  ny1

the REAL tea about Tay is that she's beating all the pop faves at their own game and now all of a sudden yall are pressed as fuck at her.

Translation : you didn't read the OP & think your reply is smart.

She's definitely NOT beating the faves at their own game since she's plainly ripping them off. She has no Style of her own, she just exists within the pop world and has no legacy in which future artists will say "I wanna be the next taylor!"

If you're talking about sales numbers, those mean nothing. Music isn't about numbers, it's about the music, which in this case is severely lacking.

Sale numbers don't fix Taylor's trash cos

You say numbers just to show

You live like that, you live with ghosts

 :(

lol. i read the OP and thought of it as a cute attempt of a drag/tea. as a Taylor fan i can however claim she's doing Katy better than Katy, Avril better than Avril and so on which is why i said she's beating them at their own game.

the way she writes her melodies and lyrics is still pretty much country but she has the pop producers now. why are they giving her their very best material rather than wasting it on Avril/Katy?

let's keep it 100%. before this album Taylor's releases were usually low-key among the pop forums habitants but the moment it has been announced she would humiliate everyone's faves with a pop album the gays became pressed as fuck.

ain't no one's fault.

I find it ironic how she went on about Katy being a bitch and now her music is like a carbon copy of Katy's but with lesser vocals. MM knew better than to give Taylor good songs and now 1989 is full with Katy's leftovers  antm1

Even Madonna has been changing  her sound with almost every album . um2

1989 isn't first  Taylor's  pop album.

Ripping them off? This is just silly.

She's doing the artists themselves better than themselves?  brit14  ayumi1  kii  ny2  ny7.gif' alt='ny6'>  <a href=http://fotpforums.com/uploads/emoticons/default_ny7.gif' alt='ny6'>.gif' alt='ny5'>  rih3.gif' alt='rih8'>

"Cause baby now we got bad blood

You know it used to be mad love

So take a look at what you've done

Cause baby now we got bad blood"

What Brilliant song writing! She's outdone Sia, Adele, Katy, Marina & the Diamonds etc.....

She didn't humiliate the faves, only her self with that pile of shit she calls lyrics! rih6

That's a cute attempt but let's face it: the fact that you won't even care for her before this era concludes will be pretty telling of Trailer's staying power!  rih4

Also, the producers really had to step the production up so that the listener doesn't fall asleep!  xtina2

Every1's pressed because she is totally undeserving of the success, she's as talented as OneErection (only she doesn't even have the looks that they have; she's a literal stick figure with a vagina, no boobs, ass or curves) & selena "100% talent free" gomez. I guess it's true  what they say: you're what your friends are! xtina5
