Pokemon TCG - Evolutions Theme Decks & Deck Collection
'Ello.
Today. I'm bringing you something very special; something that I haven't yet posted here on 'The Wonderful World of Pokemon'. It's a brand new era and a brand new chapter for this untold story. To sum the story up, I used to collect Pokemon Trading Cards as a child until I was around eleven and then sold them. However, with the success of the franchise this year, I've been able to get my niece and - to some extent - nephew hooked on the series. And I intend to further "brainwash" - according to some of you - my niece this Christmas by getting her a Nintendo 3DS and Pokemon Moon. However a month or two ago, she suddenly turned up with some Pokemon cards and I instantly set out to get some for when she's around.
However. I must say. Collecting these - even small amounts - of cards, have brought back memories and one new set more than any has hurt me in the feels. Pokemon: Evolutions. "Evolved" cards from the original Base Set - printed almost twenty years ago. At first, I was just planning on buying theme decks so we could play together while she's around, but something changed in me last night, and while I'm not going to be doing any serious collecting, trading or battling - you can find me on PTCGO at RihannaRTT though - I've sort of decided to buy a full booster box of thirty six booster packs every 3 months when a new set comes out. For how long, I continue this? I don't know. In addition, I'll continue buying theme decks. As of yesterday, my theme deck collection was the following:
Without further ado, I'll now explain this series. The Pokemon TCG series here will revolve around my acquisitions of various packs. As stated previously, I have bought a booster box for Pokemon Evolutions - due to arrive tomorrow - but I'll probably wait till Saturday to open and document it as the kids are meant to be visiting them, so they can help with the second blog entry. In addition, I've also bought the two theme decks from the XY:Break era that I am missing; Wave Slasher (Greninja) and Electric Eye (Zapdos) and pre-ordered the Legendary Battle Decks with Articuno-EX, Zapdos-EX and Moltres-EX. When these come, I'll do another post. However, the post today is the two theme decks - Mewtwo Mayhem and Pikachu Power - from Pokemon: Evolutions.
I don't know how this feels for anyone else but instantly seeing the Mewtwo card on the front of Mewtwo Mayhem made me feel things as it was one of my favorite cards as a child - although, albeit a bit useless. I remember the Pikachu art fondly too. I decided to save the best for last and therefore open the series mascot's very own theme deck first. The cards below showcase all the Pokemon featured in the Pokemon cards. The regional bug designs struck me as I had many of those when I was younger.
Finally. I moved onto the Mewtwo deck. Even just opening it gave me such thrills as it was the sole reason I became so excited in doing this as a series. After gawking at Mewtwo's beauty for however long, I realised that I legitimately recognise the art of at least 90% of these cards. The cards below are the Pokemon found in the Mewtwo Mayhem theme deck.
That's all I have to report with today's first ever entry in this Pokemon TCG series, but I'm going to make this a running thing. Usually it'll be every 3 months when new sets come out as I have decided I'm not going to look for sets before XY: Break. So outside of the booster box for Evolutions this weekend, the Legendary Battle decks and the two decks I'm missing, everything else will be from the Sun and Moon sets next year. During that time, these entries are likely to be every 3 months except in circumstances where extra theme decks get issued. I know today's entry isn't particularly interesting since all the cards are guaranteed, however this weekend, I'll try and be as suspenseful as I can. Enjoy and see ya then!
